We want to inform you a Wapato Middle School student is safe and uninjured after a local transient reportedly threatened him with a knife this morning (5/16/24).  The incident happened about 6:45 a.m. in the 500 block of Donald Rd. while the student was waiting for the bus.  The student ran back into his house and the family called law enforcement.  Within a short period of time the District’s School Resource Officer located the suspect in downtown Wapato and arrested him. The District is in contact with the family and providing any supports they may need.   We are thankful no one was hurt during this incident and we encourage our families to discuss safety measures with your children, such as remaining vigilant and reporting any suspicious activity. 

Queremos informarles que un estudiante de Wapato Middle School esta a salvo y ileso despues de que un transuénte local lo amenazara con un cuchillo esta mañana (16/05/24). El incidente ocurrio alrededor de las 6:45 a.m. en la área de 500 Donald Rd. mientras el estudiante esperaba el autobús. El estudiate regreso corriendo a su casa y la familia llamo a las autoridades. En poco tiempo, el Oficial de Recursos Escolares del Distrito localizo al sospechoso en el centro de Wapato y lo arrestó. El Distrito esta en contacto con la familia y brindando cualquier apoyo que puedan necesitar. Estamos agradecidos de que nadie resulto herido durante este incidente y alentamos a nuestras familias a hablar de las medidas de seguridad con sus hijos, como permanecer alerta e informar cualquier actividad sospechosa.
